Ariel3Israel’s expansion into the West Bank by confiscating almost 1,000 acres of land earlier this week was called as “undermining the fragile peace process” by senior British MEP Dr Sajjad Karim.

The land grab, the biggest by Israel in 30 years according to Amnesty International, has attracted international criticism including from the US, its long-term ally. The US administration has called the move “counterproductive” and the EU issued a statement saying calling for the “Israeli authorities to reverse this decision”.

British Conservative MEP, Dr Sajjad Karim MEP, criticised Israel for its actions. He said: “Israeli expansion of settlements in the West Bank is illegal, dangerous and undermines the fragile peace process. Israel should pull back and reverse its decision to build the settlements.

“They are deliberately and unjustly squeezing Palestinians on the West Bank which is making it difficult to agree peace terms.”

The Conservative Legal Affairs Spokesman went on to say: “Peace in this region is vital, as it reverberates across the wider world. Actions of aggression, by both sides, will only stoke the flames of violence further. Both sides need to actively pursue peace.”

Israel’s decision to expand into the West Bank was taken in the wake of the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teens in Gush Etzion in June.
